A new package of support will help high street businesses “get back on their feet” following the coronavirus lockdown, the Government has said.
Known as the High Streets Task Force, the new platform comes as almost all non-essential retail businesses prepare to open from Monday, 15 June.
The hub – launched by high street expert Mark Robinson in collaboration with Government – will provide free access to “cutting-edge” tools, online training programmes, webinars, and data and intelligence for high street businesses, covering a variety of topics including recovery planning and coordination, public space, and place marketing.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr Robinson, who co-founded Ellandi, an investment group which has so far raised more than £1.5 billion to invest in regional town centres, said the hub will provide “invaluable advice” to town centre stakeholders.
“We will continue to build capacity, promoting best practice, led by research and evidenced by data. The Task Force will provide a rallying point for all of the people who care about our high streets and advocate the change that is needed.”
The High Streets Task Force comes as thousands of non-essential retailers – including hardware stores, fashion outlets, bookies and gift shops – prepare to open their doors again. Before opening, each business must satisfy public health guidelines by carrying out a transmission risk assessment and take action to prevent the spread of the virus.
