CJRS: Deadline for November claims fast approaching

Claims under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) for November must be submitted no later than 14 December 2020, it has been cautioned.

Reminding businesses to keep up with their legal obligations, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) warned that the CJRS deadline could get missed over the busy festive period.

The reminder comes after the initiative was extended in response to the second national lockdown until at least 31 March 2021.

Under the extended scheme, employees will now receive 80 per cent of their current salary for hours not worked.

However, there are now shorter deadlines for submitting monthly claims. For periods starting on or after 01 November 2020, claims must be submitted within 14 calendar days after the month they relate to (if the date falls on a weekend the claim can be submitted the next working day).

Commenting on the report, the ICAEW said: “Claims under the coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS) for November must be submitted no later than 14 December. Although payroll dates may differ for the Christmas period, claims can continue to be submitted before, during or after the payroll is processed, as long as the claim is submitted by the deadline.”

The CJRS had been due to close in November and be replaced by the Job Support Scheme (JSS). However, both the JSS and the Job Retention Bonus have now been put on hold.
